This is the case of Mukta (Pearl in Sanskrit), a stunning and unique group, which drives its musical influences to the fusion of the Occident and the Orient.The adventure begins in 1994 from Nantes when Simon Mary, a bass player passionately in love with Indian music, decided to learn the subtle art of sitar… He thus met Brigitte Menon, specialist of this instrument, who has nearly lived seventeen years in India to study music with the greatest contemporary masters.Brigitte gave to the jazzman another manner to approach music making him dream of new fusion, different linking, faraway and imaginary voyages. Mukta was the name given to the code of this unedited utopian music which slowly matured and developed.Supported by the two associates coming from Nantes, Geoffroy Tamisier( trumpet and melodica) and Jean Chevalier ( drums), Mukta creates a style which integrates the constraints of both the types of music. In short, it invents a demanding and ambitious “world jazz”, against all the clichés: “We are a group of jazz which does not play jazz, but at the same time plays all kinds of jazz” - Simon Mary. French Jazz Saxophone Quartet "QUATUOR DE SAXOPHONES DE PARIS(QSP) " perform at Jazz Utsav 2003. QSP or the Paris Saxophone Quartet in an ensemble composed of four soloists, Daniel Liger, Francis Caumont, Alain Jousset & Philippe Duchesne, all endowed with saxophone first prizes as well as with the Chamber Music Prize of the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique de Paris. QSP presents the most homogeneous ensemble and has been awarded, the Special Prize of the Paris U.F.A.M International Contest. QSP has a very wide repertoire from Western Classical (Bach) to jazz through original work and contemporary music. Numerous international tours also enabled the quartet to perform with great success in Europe, the Middle-East and America.
